The Congo Basin is the world’s largest rainforest after the Amazon, but it’s far less explored. It’s here that you can enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime encounter as you track western lowland gorillas in Odzala–Kokoua National Park. Very few people have the privilege of setting foot here, in one of Africa’s most primordial and little-explored landscapes. This awe-inspiring wilderness experience will leave you humbled and exhilarated in equal measure.
On the 7-night Odzala Discovery with Kamba, you can experience both adrenaline and deep tranquillity. Starting in Brazzaville, a short flight drops you into the heart of the rainforest, where Ngaga Camp immerses you in the canopy and lush undergrowth.
Gorilla treks are intimate (just four people per group), and seeing silverbacks in the wild is unforgettable. You could experience a mix of quiet connection or witness a thrilling power display.
At Lango Baï, you wade through seasonally flooded forests and savannahs, looking up to witness clouds of African grey parrots or green pigeons passing above and searching the tree line for glimpses of forest elephants. Mboko Camp offers more walks, river boating, and the warmth of Kamba staff whose care elevates the journey.
Conservation is at Odzala’s core; visiting supports vital wildlife and community work. For those willing to embrace a little discomfort, this is a truly transformative African adventure.
FAQ's
Is the Republic of Congo safe for tourists to visit?
Yes. The Republic of Congo is safe and shouldn’t be confused with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which is an entirely different country.
How is the western lowland gorilla trekking experience at Kamba different from mountain gorilla trekking in Rwanda?
The gorillas themselves are different, with the lowland gorilla spending more time in trees. The terrain is also different. In Odzala, it’s not as steep but can also be muddy and wet.
