Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago is ideal for travellers dreaming of pristine beaches, clear turquoise waters and exceptional snorkelling and diving. Renowned as one of the top-rated diving destinations in the world, it offers wonderful underwater experiences. Whale sharks, manta rays, turtles and vibrant coral reefs all occur within the marine protected area and Bazuruto is also home to the rare dugong. Days unfold slowly with snorkelling, dhow cruises, and barefoot living.
Mozambique is ideal as a standalone beach journey or a post-safari retreat.
FAQ's
Can I easily visit Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago after a safari in South Africa’s Kruger National Park?
Yes, it’s a popular add-on. A short flight (about an hour) will take you from Kruger to Vilanculos on Mozambique's mainland shore. From here, a boat transfer (30-60 minutes) or a helicopter trip (10-15 minutes) will take you to the nearby islands.
Can I swim with whale sharks and dugongs in Mozambique?
Yes. While no encounters are guaranteed and respect for the environment is paramount, these mammals do occur in the Bazaruto Archipelago, and you may have the opportunity to see them (in the water or from a boat), as well as whales and dolphins.
